PETER
NICOL - World #1
 |
| England, 28 years
old |
Peter Nicol, the defending
Tournament of Champions titlest, has spent much of the past five
years as world #1 but has never been able to established unquestioned
dominance. His rivalry with Jonathon Power, which was at its apex
in the exciting 2001 TOC final, has left its mark as a battle
of equals. Nicol is playing at the top of his game at presents.
Nicol mixes a patient game of accuracy and length with a potent
counter-attacking front game.

JOHN
WHITE - World #3
 |
| Scotland, 28 years
old |
Johnny White, a quiet and highly
talented player, has
more to prove than the other top four - he's the only one never
to occupy the top spot. His great win at Antwerp last spring established
him as a genuine contender for any top title. With family in New
York, he will be anxious to fare well this week.

LINCOU - World #5
 |
| France, 25 years old |
Thierry Lincou, a surprise

and then getting to the finals of the Cathay Pacific Open. Lincou
plays a calm and measured game, mixing a thoughtful attacking
game with effortless fitness. Lincou has the temperament and determination
to move further up the ladder.

DAVID
PALMER - World # 2
 |
| Australia, 25 years
old |
David Palmer earned the world
#1 position after his big win at the Cathay Pacific Open in Hong
Kong in August, but relinquished his spot in January to Nicol.
Palmer, a do-it-yourself product of the Australian squash hotbed,
makes great use of his reach and size to out-position and out-muscle
his opponents. Though he spend four months at #1, he may have
been filling a power-vacuum left by subpar performances by Power
and Nicol. He will be looking to establish himself at the top
again after a disappointing result in November in Toronto.

JONATHON
POWER - World #4
 |
| Canada, 27 years old |
Jonathon Power enters the 2002
as enigmatic as ever --- and he probably relishes that thought.
Power, the most creative and dangerous player on the circuit has
more highs and lows than the other top five. He usually combines
his mental acuity and superb deception at the Grand Central Venue.
He was the 2001 TOC finalist.
